Training

The National Agricultural Value Chain Development Project (NAVCDP) is alive to the usefulness of training is an effective facet of enabling transfer of skills and knowledge from trainers to users. Good use of the  knowledge gained results into achievement of target outputs and outcomes. For NAVCDP, training take various forms depending on the target group and the outcomes expected. We have short formal skill acquisition training for NARS scientists and other support staff and short-term workshop-based training for imparting skills and knowledge to lead farmers, Trainer of Trainers and extension service staff.

The training of trainers’ is especially important as it imparts in farmers through increased output and increased value addition all of which are important to this project. Other training will focus on HIV/AIDS and other communicable diseases resulting into development of a work place HIV/AIDS and other communicable diseases policy as well its inclusion in the training curriculum  in order to stem the stigma of the disease among people living with HIV/AIDS. It is also expected the project will link agriculture to nutrition, nutrition education will be delivered through farmer groups. This aspect involves awareness creation and practical training using nutritious products and recipes to build the capacity of rural and urban poor on nutritional issues such as balanced diets, micronutrients, child nutrition, feeding practices, health, and sanitation issues.
