The National Agricultural Value Chain Development Project (NAVCDP) is a Government of Kenya/World Bank-supported project Community under the State Department for Crops Development in the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development. The project goal is to increase market participation and value addition for targeted small-scale farmers across 33 counties in Kenya.
Coming after the two earlier projects, NARIGP/KCSAP which laid the foundation of increased productivity under climate resilient Technologies, Innovations and Management practices, KALRO- NAVCDP has set to work with the farmers in the two projects to increase market participation and value addition for targeted farmers in select value chains in project areas as guided by the Project Development Objective (PDO). Within KALRO, this project plans to extend further investments in existing interventions with direct focus on productivity enhancement, community led farmer extension, water management and data driven value chain services. Several intensified investments into select value chains, have been lined up for scale up.
Several subcomponents of the project define the roles assigned to KALRO specifically. Within KALRO, NAVCDP will provide support for the expansion the existing inventory of climate resilient TIMPs, the strengthening of the existing Big Data platform as the foundational database and the development of TIMPS for the two new value chains-rice and pyrethrum and update inventories of TIMPs for all other value chains developed during the implementation of KSCAP/NARIGP. Additionally, KALRO will be the lead organization in the administration and management of the adaptive and collaborative research funds on behalf of other NARS, Consultative Group on International Research (CGIARs) and all other collaborating members.
The coordination of KALRO activities in NAVCDP are under the KALRO-NAVCDP Project Coordinator assisted by the Value chain leaders and the secretariat
