Description

The National Agricultural Value Chain Development Project (NAVCDP) - Mango value chain was prioritized by farming communities in 8 counties (Kwale Kilifi, Tana River, Makueni, Kitui, Kajiado, Embu and Murang’a). The Project builds on the strong foundation laid by NARIGP and KCSAP to transform the agriculture sector by focusing on smallholder farmers either “in transition” or just “transited” from subsistence to commercial farming. The NAVCDP Development Objective is to increase market participation and value addition for targeted farmers in the 8 implementing Counties.   In order to sustain the transition from subsistence to agribusiness, the mango value chain envisages to realize several outputs. These outputs include value chain  inception meeting to conceptualize the project deliverables to implementing counties; revision of at least 10  extension training materials to be used in the project; Prioritize and bundle at last 10 TIMPs to support commercialization of the mango value chain ; 8 training schedules, training approach and preparation of practical training materials developed, and adopted;   160 ToTs trained on Mango VC specific TIMPS; 80 County TOTs training on VC specific TIMPs backstopped to ensure standards and compliance; One On-station Validation trials established at KALRO Matuga during the first year to drive commercialization in mango value chain; at least 8 seed propagators / breeders strengthened their capacity for production and commercialization of  seeds / stones and seedlings; at least 3 national value chain platforms; at least 24 county value chain platforms participated; monitoring, evaluation and learning conducted; project activities communicated and publicized and at least one conference on Agriculture attended by the mango value chain implementing team. The project employs a multidisciplinary approach involving partner organizations such KALRO, KEPHIS, HCD, ICIPE, ICRAF, County Governments (Kwale, Kilifi, Tana River, Makueni, Kitui, Kajiado, Embu & Murang’a)); Fruit processors; Farmers Cooperative societies and/or groups.
